    Chamber Happenings

    The Annual Chamber Awards Banquet was held January 31, 2009 at the Moose Lodge. Presentations made included:

    2008 Man of the Year: Bill Wescott
    2008 Woman of the Year: Groverlee Dahl
    2008 Couple of the Year: Gary & Marna Andes
    2008 McCaughan Award: Pam Sheppard
    2008 President Award: Robert Hetherwick
    2008 President’s Choice Award: Jeanne Hart
    2008 Organization of the Year Award: Gridley Lions Club
    2008 Lifetime Achievement Award: Geraldyne “Sis” Hogeboom

    The Chamber extends hearty congratulations to all award winners! These folks have been inspirational in their dedication and service to the community.

    The Chamber Business Breakfast meeting
    Tuesday, March 3rd will be held in Biggs at Thanks a Latte at 7:30 am. The topic will be a round table discussion of the chamber events for 2009 and how members can be involved.

    The next Chamber Business Luncheon meeting will be held Wednesday, April 1, at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Gridley at 12:00 noon. Cost is $10 per person.

    Oroville Chamber of Commerce Luncheon
    Assemblyman Dan Logue is the featured speaker for the next Oroville Chamber of Commerce Legislative Speaker Series Luncheon. Assemblyman Logue will speak on legislation and issues that effect businesses and the area.

    When: Friday, March 6.
    The buffet lunch is from Noon-1:30pm
    Where: Checkers Fine Italian Bistro, 109 Table Mountain Blvd.
    Lunch begins at noon, and the program will begin at approximately 12:30pm. The cost is $15 for COC members and $20 for non-members. $5 extra at the door. Registration is required.     Gridley Business Coaching Program Free Workshop
    Introduction to Organic Farming

    This free workshop for farmers and food processors will explain the process for obtaining USDA Organic certification.

    Business Technology Tidbit:

    When is the best time to send email to get attention?

    Short answer: Monday through Thursday from 10am to 3pm . Never send out email late at night if you want to get attention. It will be in the pile of emails and spam that the recipient has to wade through when they arrive in the morning.

    Likewise, don’t end up in the pile of emails that the 3 day weekend people have to deal with when they return.

    And don’t forget, the “Unjustice Court” is your opportunity to have your friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. “arrested”. This is a fun event, part of the RSD festivities, and is a fundraiser for the Chamber. Please watch for details in the Gridley Herald and get ready to fill out a few warrants!!
